1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010 – There will soon be healthy snacks at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Tenders have now gone out for those interested in operating vending machines at the health institution.
In today’s DAILY NATION on page 29A there is an advertisement for vendors to provide vending machines for snacks, hot and cold beverages in locations identified by the hospital.
Just last Friday Chairman of the hospital board Reverend Guy Hewitt told the Nation that both the ministry and some physicians had written the board on the matter of what was being offered by the vending machines.
“The board discussed it and agreed that the hospital should be an example of good practice in offering the people of Barbados a healthy option”.
“This country has a macaroni pie and sweet drink culture that we have to change. Too much of what we eat is high in sugar and high in salt. We want the public to be understanding and patient as we seek to act in their best interest,” he said. (CM)
