GIRL NEXT DOOR

Curvy, considerate and bright are apt adjectives to describe 19-year-old University of the West Indies student Shakera Yearwood.
This second-year management student is specialising in international business, with an eye to shaping the global economy but still finds time to help others.
“I volunteer once a week at the Learning Centre, and I love to read with the kids,” she says.
“It always bothered me when people were rude or mean, and I have a sister with cerebral palsy, so I knew that those comments hurt and I wanted to be able to be helpful instead of hurtful.
“I will always give back to the school in whatever way I can even when I am influencing the global economy.” • Photography and make-up by Risée Chaderton
