Duty free art may soon be a reality.
This from Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, Steve Blackett, as he delivered the feature address at the opening ceremony of Art & Stage Inc, Satjay Mall, Bridgetown earlier today.
The minister said the Cultural Industries Bill which was now between the office of the Attorney General would deal with this new aspect, adding that tax concessions for the general public and business communities will be among the first set of legislations to be debated in Parliament after it reconvenes.
Blackett commended the creative director and founder of the gallery John Walcott who is a versatile Barbadian artist for his contribution to the promotion of arts on the island.
CEO of the gallery Charles Walcott suggests that incentives, generous funding and aggressive promotion is needed immediately to stimulate the market place so art can thrive again in Barbados.
