Forde: Thompson admired by all

A tribute from the general-secretary of the Barbados Labour Party Cynthia Forde on the passing of Prime Minister David Thompson.
I am saddened at the news of the passing of our Prime Minister the Hon. David Thompson. Even though we learnt of his illness over the past few months, we never expected such a sudden departure.
We served on different sides of the political fence but we all shared common goals associated with serving the people of Barbados.
Early in his political career, we developed a healthy relationship where we exchanged conversations that were both jovial and informative.
I shall forever cherish, with fond memories, our visit to Namibia as delegates to a Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in the late 1990s where our team shared happy moments together as though we were all from the same political party.
In the cut and thrust of politics, we have had our dull moments by way of our fiery exchanges while in the Chamber but that did not impact on the high level of respect which I had for him as Prime Minister.
He was an excellent orator and skilful debater who was greatly admired by all. He brought new life, hope, vigour and leadership to the Democratic Labour Party.
His presence and contribution will be sorely missed by all Barbados.
I take this opportunity to extend deepest condolences to his wonderful wife Mara, his three children, his parents and other relatives as well as the family of the Democratic Labour Party, on my behalfthat of my family and the entire Barbados Labour Party family.
MAY HE REST IN PEACE
