THE SUPER YACHT Eclipse arrived in Barbados yesterday morning for the first time and will be berthed here until tomorrow.
Considered the largest privately own yacht, it is 557 feet long and has two helipads, a missile detector, a military-grade defence system, and a 12-seat miniature submarine aboard the elaborate luxury watercraft.
The masters suite, which is a mansion within a yacht, is armour-plated and has bulletproof windows. The Eclipse lives up to its name richly with a swimming pool and a full spa on board. There are 24 guestrooms, and each has a private balcony. The saloon areas are enormous, with lounges and bars positioned throughout. There also is a screening room and a disco.
The $400-million-plus yacht has as many lavish amenities in place as it has surveillance and security devices.
Eclipse was made by Blohm & Voss in Hamburg, Germany, and is owned by Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, who also owns English Premier League football club Chelsea. Reports are that it was delivered to him on December 9. (LK)
