High surf alert

A high surf advisory will be in effect for Barbados from 6 p.m. today.
A bulletin from the Barbados Meterological Services stated that the advisory will be in effect until further notice.
“Strong surface winds of 20 to 25 knots are generating large easterly swells over the Tropical Atlantic. Some of these swells are already affecting the coastal waters of Barbados and the other islands of the Caribbean.
“A further deterioration is expected as the week progresses and swells are expected to peak around 13 feet on Thursday,” it noted.
Met officials explained that a high surf advisory means that seas will generate very large breaking waves and dangerous rip currents along coastal waters of Barbados.
“All users are advised to be vigilant for large breaking waves surging onto the shore…and should stay clear of the beaches wherever possible”. (CM)
