Kamla heads to the UK
Trinidad’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar leaves today for the United Kingdom to participate in celebrations of Commonwealth Week 2011.
A statement from her office said that during the weeklong visit she will represent the Commonwealth at several of its meetings and deliver addresses at various parliamentary, local government, and business meetings in her capacity as Chairperson-in-Office of the Commonwealth.
The Prime Ministerr is being accompanied by a high-level private sector grouping with the statement saying that the “objective of this visit to the UK is to provide key networking opportunities between Trinidad and Tobago business leaders and their UK and other business people and Government representatives from throughout the Commonwealth”.
It said the first such event will be at the launch of the Caribbean Investment Forum (CIF) organised by the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC).
Trade and Industry Minister Stephen Cadiz will also host a business networking reception at the Trinidad & Tobago High Commission “in order to facilitate bi-laterals for the business delegates and any companies or business people interested in doing business in Trinidad and Tobago or working with their local counterparts”.
A number of artistes headed by the Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism, Winston Peters, and including Machel Montano, the recently crowned International Soca Monarch, will also represent Trinidad and Tobago at business, tourism and cultural promotional events in the United kingdom, the statement said.
