Push for Rihanna concert

Barbadians might just see singing sensation Rihanna in concert “sooner rather than later”.
Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley said he would love to see Rihanna perform, and that he had been in discussion with the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) and they were trying to book the Grammy Award-winning star for a performance in Barbados.
“Rihanna is one of us, and we have to make sure that there is a massive event featuring Rihanna in Barbados, because this is where she has come from.”
About ten local acts are currently signed to international labels and there is a view that Barbados does not benefit from that fact, but Lashley differs.
“Although they’re gonna leave Barbados and go into different markets, it is not correct to say that we don’t benefit from it.
“We will benefit but what we have to do is to help to nourish that talent . . . . What we have to do is continue to support them. I always stress that this is not only something that the Government would do; all of the various agencies responsible have a role to play,” Lashley said. (YB)
