Exercise with musical rhythm

PROVIDING MUSIC for children exercising is the way for schools in Barbados to go.
This was the advice of the physical education teacher at the West Terrace Primary School, Roderick Harmon.
He told the DAILY NATION that in an effort to pique the interest of his students during PE sessions, since the beginning of this school year he had provided them with gospel music to give them the option of exercising and having fun, and he had seen a tremendous change.
“We find that the children of today are not so keen on doing the things we used to do when we were young children, especially when it comes to exercising,” he pointed out. “Children of today want activities that are current and involve a lot of music and movement.
“Through this programme, we satisfy the students’ desires and we accomplish what we are trying to accomplish – which is getting them to exercise to keep healthy.” (AH)
