United States based jurist Marston Gibson will be Barbados’ new Chief Justice.
According to reliable sources, Gibson will be sworn in as the island’s top judicial officer on September 1.
The Barbadian-born Rhodes Scholar recently received his appointment papers for the top job, which has been vacant for over two years after Sir David Simmons resigned.
Efforts to contact Gibson for comment proved futile after several attempts.
Gibson’s appointment comes against a background of controversy including the  ammendment of the Supreme Court of Judicature Act which removed certain legal barriers in order to facilitate his qualification for the top judicial post.
Gibson has lived in the United States for several years and has served as the lone black referee in the New York State Supreme Court in Nassau County.
