The Barbados Music Awards, in its seventh year, is moving to the 25 000-seat Kensington Oval.
Slated for December 18, the event will be jointly staged with Caribfest in one massive night of music, say the founding promoters, Timeless Barbados Inc., who will stage the show in association with Gold Coast Records Inc.
Noting they were hoping to stage “the biggest awards event ever . . . in any Caribbean island”, the promoters said in a media release last night that British musical icon Sir Cliff Richard will attend the show to receive the prestigious International Icon Award, which was last year presented posthumously to Michael Jackson and accepted by his father Joseph Jackson.
The promoters also disclosed that Sir Cliff would be honoured at the ceremony in a musical tribute by his friend and local jazz vocalist Rosemary Phillips.
