President of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Walter Maloney, has denied that deputy general secretary Derek Alleyne has been booted from the organization.
Maloney told the WEEKEND NATION, the union’s council was yet to make a determination on Alleyne’s second request for no-pay leave to continue in his position as director of the Urban Development Commission (UDC).
In an interview with the DAILY NATION this week, Alleyne said he had asked for an extension of his no-pay leave but he had heard nothing from the union.
The deputy general secretary, who took over the reins of the UDC in August 2009 for two years in the first instance, also said he had received a letter from general secretary Dennis Clarke informing him that he had abandoned his job.
