Farmers fear turkey imports
President of the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS),?Carlyle Brathwaite, says small farmers are hurting and want to know why people outside of the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (BADMC) have been granted licences to import poultry.
“There are individuals who have taken the opportunity to import in such a way. It is not Government.
“Normally poultry should only be imported through the [BADMC] as the sole importer, but yet I understand that licences were granted to other persons.
“This is the second time that it has happened during my tenure in office, and this must be brought to the attention of the public,” Brathwaite said yesterday.
