A 27-YEAR-OLD man is in serious but stable condition after receiving a gunshot wound to the head on Saturday.
Police report Corey Baptiste, of Parish Land, Christ Church, was attending a five-a-side football match finals in Silver Hill around 9:30 p.m. when gunshots were heard and he was injured.
After the incident, Baptiste was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he remains today.
Member of Parliament for the area Stephen Lashley, who was present at the event at the time of the shooting, condemned the act.
“This is not the kind of conduct the people of Silver Hill or of this constituency tolerate. Violent acts like these at popular events really need to be brought to a halt,” he said.
Lashley said the finals would either be replayed with a heavy police presence or the top prizes would have to be shared between the two teams. (CA)
