Close to 21 workers at the National Employment Bureau – a department of the Labour Department have walked off the job this morning complaining of unhealthy working conditions.
The government workers told NATIONNews they did not intend to go back on the job until the conditions were corrected.
They said for over a year now they have been complaining about a foul smell coming from the air conditioning vents and illnesses among workers due to “unhealthy” conditions in the department, located on the second floor of the old NIS building, on Fairchild Street, The City.
Representative, Wayne Walrond of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) met with the acting senior labour officer and the head of maintenance this morning to discuss the matter and find a solution. Walrond later spoke to the employees gathered on the ground floor of the building on the outcome of the brief meeting advising them to “play it by ear”. (MM)
