ALTAR CALL: Bless the one who curses you!

WHETHER YOUR LIFE is filled with blessings or curses, it is sometimes your own doing. You do the choosing!
Reverend Ferdinand Nicholls preached this message to his congregation at the House Of Freedom, situated at One Accord Plaza, Sunday morning before last.
During a service ignited by an hour of praise and worship, Nicholls told his listeners that worshipping false gods, committing various moral and ethical sins, anti-semitism, legalism, carnality, apostasy, theft, perjury, robbing God, failing to recognize God as the absolute authority and failing to recognize those He had placed in authority were all avenues to releasing curses in one’s life.
He also spoke of some of the conditions of self-imposed curses, such as mental/emotional breakdown, repeated or chronic illnesses, barrenness and miscarriages, breakdown of marriage, family alienation, continuous financial insufficiency, suicide, untimely death, and being accident-prone.
Nicholls described a curse as “an invisible spiritual barrier upon our lives that stops us from living in the fullness of God’s blessings in our lives”.
“First of all, we must know this: Likea fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest. – Proverbs 26:2
“If anyone curses you, but you have not broken any boundaries of God in your life, then the curses cannot rest upon you.
You speak a blessing upon the person who has cursed you or offended you, forgive and release them . . . so you will also be released from the curse,” he explained.
Nicholls shared quite a number of scriptural verses on curses and their effects and also looked at the life of Elisha in 2 Kings 19:22, where following the departure of Elijah, the city leaders cameto Elisha with a bad report about the city of Jericho.
The prophet, he explained, was able to reverse the curse.
He pointed out that the curse on Jericho, which was later reversed through Elisha’s proclamation that he had “purified [healed] the waters” and “there shall not be from there death or barrenness any longer”, was one that had been placed upon the city during the time of Joshua.
Nicholls told his congregation that even if the situation they were facing “has a long history, it can still be reversed”.
He also emphasized that curses on a person’s life “can come through the power branch of the occult, such as invoking supernatural evil powers, like acupuncture, astral projection, hypnosis, martial arts, mind dynamics, witchcraft and freemasonry”.
He said the occult could also operate through astrology, clairvoyance, crystal balls, omens, palm reading, mediums, mind-reading, and through physical objects such as amulets, birthstones, charms, heavy metal records, cassettes, lucky symbols, zodiac charms and artefacts.
This preacher, who also led in worship, admonished his congregation to be careful of casual and idle chat and spreading malicious rumours and gossip about other people.
He stressed that divine blessings were given to mankind through Christ’s death on the Cross when divine exchanges were given to us in the form of healing (Isaiah 53:5, Jesus’ forgiveness (Isaiah 53:4-5), His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21), His life (Hebrews 2:9), glory (Isaiah 53:3), and acceptance (Matthew 27:51-56).
He also noted that Christ’s blessings were given in exchange for our curse (Galatians 3:13-14)
