A time to celebrate

The men and women of the Barbados Regiment marched with pride yesterday as they began celebrating marking the 59th anniversary with a service at St Matthias Church.
The parade was in recognition of the handover of the Regiment’s colours on February 23, 1953. These colours were later changed after the country gained Independence.
In his message, Reverend Dr Marcus Lashley urged people to be mindful of the decisions they made since  it could be difficult to sustain some.
Among the events planned for the week of celebrations are a blood collection drive at the Barbados Defence Force’s St Ann’s Fort, St Michael headquarters, today from 9 a.m to 2:30 p.m.; a lecture on The Military History Of Barbados by historian Dr Karl Watson this evening; a career showcase tomorrow, as well as a food collection drive for the Red Cross and HIV/AIDS Food Banks in 12 supermarkets across the island.
