The?resilient,?historic St Philip’s Parish church is facing another hurdle in its 300-year history.
It is currently undergoing extensive repair to its roof after the structure suffered severe damage from termite infestation.
Rector Rev. Trevor O’Neale said the repairs should last about six months.
The most memorable tragedy to hit the church was when it was partially destroyed by fire on Ash Wednesday 1977.
It was restored by voluntary subscriptions and rededicated by Bishop Drexel Gomez on December 17, 1979.
The earliest record of the church is dated 1640 and that it was damaged by a hurricane in 1780.
A new church was built in 1786 and destroyed by the hurricane of 1831.
The church was rebuilt and consecrated by Bishop William Hart Coleridge on October 20, 1836.
