The reappearance of Shanice Reece yesterday ended more than four weeks of anxiety not only for her family but also for police.
Before the announcement that the 18-year-old Body Fitness Queen had been traced, police public relations officer Inspector David Welch spoke of their concern about the number of people reported missing, especially those under 16 years old.
At the end of February, eight of the 18 reported missing were under 16. Of the 86 reported missing last year, 25 were under 16 and of the 106 reported in 2010, 41 were under 16.
Welch said mssing persons reports were dealt with on a case-by-case basis and investigations were conducted to find out the reason behind the disappearance of each case. (JS)
