Bajans get warm Carifta welcome

A trumpet fanfare, whistles and the Broken Trident greeted the Barbados CARIFTA Team at the L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda on Wednesday night.
The Barbados Association of Bermuda met the team at the airport, giving them a real Bajan welcome to the place they will call home for the 2012 LIME CARIFTA Games until Tuesday.
Pictures and video of the arrival were posted on the social network site Facebook.
“I want to say welcome to all the Barbados team to Bermuda,” said Rudolph Alleyne, president of the association.
“We want to make sure that you have a warm and wonderful welcome here tonight. We have something planned for you later. I want you to have a good time and, most of all, go home with many medals.”
That statement was greeted with enthusiastic shouts of “Yeah!” by the athletes.
Head coach Alwyn Babb thanked the association for its gesture.
“This is the first time I’ve been to a CARIFTA Games and we’ve had such a welcome at the airport and we love it,” he said to more cheers from the athletes.
“This is the type of atmosphere which lends to good performances and we’re going to take this welcome right into the next couple of days and we’re going to give you the performances that you will all be proud of as Barbadians living here.”
A reception was held for the athletes.
The team went to the stadium yesterday but attempts to reach management officials for comment were unsuccessful.
