This year’s sugar cane yield will exceed projections.
Yesterday, a highly placed source in the Barbados Agricultural Management Company (BAMC) told the WEEKEND?NATION the island’s two sugar factories were on course to produce more than 24 000 tonnes of sugar this year.
This would surpass the 21 717 tonnes of sugar that had been projected.
“If things continue with no hiccups, we could produce about 24 750 tonnes of sugar. There have been no mechanical issues, and rain has not been a challenge. It has been fairly dry.
“Things have been going reasonably smoothly. We have had our day-to-day challenges but nothing major,” the source said.
