COMMISSIONER OF POLICE Darwin Dottin has dismissed a call for foreign help to investigate the police shooting of Jamar Maynard, insisting that local systems are “robust enough” to ensure there is no cover-up.
The island’s top cop has also rejected a suggestion that the lawman who fatally shot Maynard last week be suspended.
Dottin was responding to calls from the attorney representing Maynard’s family, David Comissiong, who wrote him and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Charles Leacock, QC, on the matter Wednesday.
Speaking to the SATURDAY SUN yesterday after receiving the correspondence, the police chief reported that a full investigation was “well on the way”.
