Anansi comes to life in the Park

Anansi the spider, one the most popular children’s storybook characters, came to life in Queen’s Park yesterday at the inaugural BIM Literary Festival And Book Fair.
Children sat under the shade of the baobab tree in the park listening to stories told by Anansi (Phelan Lowe) and Nyame, the sky god (played by Lowe’s wife Barbara Sandiford).
In the interactive session, the children, who came from everywhere, revelled in Anansi And The Sky Kingdom, Anansi And The Tug Of War and How Anansi Got The Stories.
For the BIM Literary Festival And Book Fair, Queen’s Park was transformed into a Book Village, promoting the books and publications of Barbadian authors in a range of genres.
The inclusive BIM Litfest Children’s Fair was designed to bring literature and literacy enjoyment to the young ones with storytelling and book reading; and the little ones were reminded that Words Need Love Too, the theme of the book fair.
Here, children listen carefully as Anansi tells one of his several stories. (LK)
