Quarry owners urged to give back

Senator Irene?Sandiford-Garner has urged the owners of Walkers Sand Quarry project to give back something to the parish of St Andrew that has contributed so much to them.
Sandiford-Garner made that call on Wednesday night at a town hall meeting at the Alleyne School in Belleplaine to discuss an environmental impact study related to Phase 4 of the Walkers Sand Quarry project.
Speaking before a panel of town planning and environmental consultants, Sandiford-Garner, the Democratic Labour Party (DLP)?candidate for the St Andrew constituency, said Walkers Sand Quarry owners had come up short in making a mark in the community that had served them well.
“When you look at the fact that St Andrew possesses the only sand that the Government has allowed an entity to mine, the sand quarry has had a good run in this parish,” she said.
