Stuart: Start own business

BARBADOS MUST FOSTER a mindset that people leaving educational institutions should be determined to start their own businesses instead, of looking for jobs, says Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
Stating that the need for entrepreneurship and innovation was one of the biggest challenges facing the country at his time, Stuart said Government in particular could not employ everyone seeking a job.
“This Government has committed itself to protecting jobs in the public sector, and to that commitment we remain faithful, but the word has to go forth that there are not unlimited opportunities for employment in the public sector,” he told the House yesterday while moving a resolution to note and approve Protocol VI of the Social Partnership 2011 – 2013.
Stuart added that the protocol’s drafting committee had paid special attention to a number of factors, the first of which dealt with initiatives that would enable Barbados to emerge successfully from the current economic crisis and to become the No. 1 entrepreneurial hub in the world.
