HIV, AIDS and “knowing your status” were once again in the forefront as yesterday marked the fifth annual Regional HIV/AIDS Testing Day.
The event was officially launched at Scotiabank Rockley, Christ Church, by Minister of Health Donville Inniss.
“Over the last few years we have been able to test large numbers of people – in the range of 1 300 to 1 500. These large numbers are impressive and clearly demonstrate the influential power of the media and the importance of strategic alliances such as this.
“I have no doubt that with the assistance of the Caribbean Broadcast Media Partnership (CBMP) on HIV/AIDS  and their aggressive media campaigns we will achieve our target of maintaining this high number of people who come forward to be tested for HIV,” he said.
Inniss said events such as Regional Testing Day were vital if Barbados was to maintain the targets of goal six of the Millennium Development Goals. That goal relates to halting and reversing the spread of HIV/ AIDS. (CA)
