25 cadets under Fire Service wings
EVEN THOUGH THEY MAY NOT GET TO RIDE in the fire trucks to an emergency situation or get to put out a fire, 25 young people will go through some of the rigours of training to become a firefighter.
The group will take part in the six-week-long Junior Fire Cadets Programme at the Arch Hall Fire Station, where they will receive training from members of the Barbados Fire Service (BFS).
At yesterday’s opening day of the programme, Junior Fire Cadet programme coordinator, Fire Officer Fernando McAllister, said the programme, now in its 12th year, was aimed at fostering stronger relations with the community, but with the BFS being a disciplined organization, the cadets will be exposed to that level of discipline.
He said the programme was designed to develop character, confidence, self-esteem and self-discipline.
