Regional players Chadwick Walton and Jonathan Carter scored centuries as Sagicor UWI batsmen hammered hapless TeleBarbados Carlton to reach 394 for six off just 64 overs by the end of the second day’s play yesterday in their sixth-round LIME Elite Division match.
Walton, who has represented Jamaica in regional competitions and had a Jamaican flag tied around his neck, exposed the fragility of the Carlton bowling by reaching his century off just 60 deliveries.
It was laced with seven sixes and a solitary boundary in just 122 minutes at the crease.
However, it was Carter, a Barbados player, who set the standard for the innings with a polished 105 to reach his fourth century representing UWI. His hundred came off 89 deliveries in 144 minutes, inclusive of 14 fours and four sixes, three of which came in successive deliveries off left-arm spinner Dane Currency.
While the two century makers were blasting away, Nekoli Parris, who featured in critical partnerships with both Carter and Walton, was steady and methodical in his innings of 72. His 50 took him 88 balls in 114 minutes to compile while securing the other end.
Resuming at eight without loss, UWI lost Omar Phillips and Kyle Corbin with the score on 49.
Carter and Parris then posted a third-wicket stand of 144 to take the score to 193 before Carter was brilliantly caught by Martin Nurse at deep long-off.
Walton joined Parris and they added a further 58 before Parris nibbled at an ordinary delivery from Carlo Morris to be caught by the keeper.
Floyd Reifer and Akeem Dewar did not last too long while Walton was punishing the bowling to all parts of the ground.
Romel Currency (24) remained with him at the close in an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 87 as UWI extended their lead by 156 runs.
