Broomes breaks!
Those attending the Commission of Inquiry into the Alexandra Secondary School industrial dispute yesterday saw the softer side of the man who has been described as a “workplace bully”.
Principal Jeff Broomes dried tears after recalling the fact that his late mother’s illness had coincided with an issue surrounding the non-teaching of a fourth form between May and June last year.
Stating: “I’m not going to pretend that May to June 2011 was easy in my life, Sir,” Broomes’ reaction brought the proceedings to a halt.
Commissioner Frederick Waterman then decided to break for lunch, giving Broomes time to regain his composure as he joined his wife Margaret, who sat in the audience for the entire day’s hearing. (RJ)
