The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus is shifting its growth and development focus from the Social Sciences to the area of Science and technology, in keeping with Barbados’ needs for economic growth.
And today, Principal Sir Hilary Beckles said the decision was in keeping with a strategy for planned expansion in those areas where it was recognised the economy woukld grow. As a result three quarters of the university’s graduates had been able to find jobs on graduation.
“We focussed the growth in areas where we knew the economy needed to be supported.”
Speaking at the unveiling of the 2012-2013 LIME directory cover at the campus Sir Hilary said the campus had a new vision for the future, in which science and technology would inform the its agenda for educating people to meet the needs of a changing economy.
In this context Beckles said there would be a reframing of an earlier stated mandate to produce at least one graduate per household. (GC)
