The HIV & AIDS Block Draughts Tournament will now be an annual event.
Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley made this announcement last week at the conclusion of the ministry-sponsored inaugural tournament which was won by the Ellerton district in St George.
In the final at the Ministry of Family and Youth Complex in Haggatt Hall, Ellerton defeated Haynesville 17-15 in a tight finish.
In the third-place match, Jessamine Avenue from St Michael fought off a sensational effort by Lammings from St Joseph, who played with a player short, to win the tie-breaker 19-17.
Lashley and Director of Youth Cleviston Hunte presented the trophies and cheques to the winners.
Before the tournament officially started, World Go-As-You-Please draughts champion Ronald “Suki” King visited the communities and gave the players tips. (EZS)
