Wellness industry ‘can boost tourism’
Executive director of the Caribbean Export Development Agency, Pamela Coke-Hamilton, believes the region’s tourism product stands to benefit significantly from the improvement of its spa and wellness industry.
During the launch yesterday of the Caribbean Spa and Wellness Association’s (C-SWA) website at Baobab Towers, Warrens, she suggested that this segment could help to diversify the tourism offering.
“The spa and wellness industry can position the Caribbean for longer term competitiveness in a fast-growing market for travel and leisure and provide potential tourists with another reason for wanting to travel to the Caribbean.
“The majority, if not all, of CARIFORUM countries currently have an active health and wellness sector and many of them, particularly the smaller islands, rely heavily on the tourism industry as an export sector,” she said. (NB)
