Holetown Festival targets 20 000
organiZers expect more than 20 000 people to patronize this year’s Holetown Festival.
Speaking at the launch of the 37th edition of the festival yesterday, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Shelley Carrington, said one of the objectives was to celebrate elements of Barbados’ heritage.
Noting that cultural heritage as a tourism niche had been highlighted by the World Heritage Organization as one of the five key market segments of the future, Carrington said it had the capacity to instill or restore national pride and preserve cultural identities.
“Recent shifts in market trends confirm an increased interest worldwide in experiencing new destinations and the way nationals live,” she said. (YB)
