The Barbados Football Association (BFA) is looking to hire a technical director to assist in the sport’s development.
This word has come from BFA president Randy Harris, speaking to reporters at a Press conference at the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) headquarters recently.
Harris pointed out that despite the association’s financial struggles and the high fees usually associated with such people, the BFA was still exploring its options on how it could move forward with the process.
“We know that we have to bring a technical director to Barbados who knows the football at the highest level,” he explained.
“We have seen it work throughout the Caribbean with Haiti, Jamaica, and most recently Trinidad and Tobago.
“Obviously these world-renowned coaches come with a pretty hefty price tag and we are looking at ways to get assistance to make sure that whoever gets the title of technical director of Barbados would have a vision for this country to take it to the next step.”
Harris was also of the view that the BDF had an important role to play.
He disclosed that the BFA and BDF had signed a memorandum of understanding in which they pledged to work more closely together in the future.
“It is quite clear that the BDF has a lot to offer to football in general, and to footballers.
“We have agreed to work together in certain areas such as training, being able to use the facilities for national selection and of course we have a football facility which is available to them anytime,” Harris outlined.
“Basically I believe that if we work together, things can happen.”
He further noted that the BFA had contacts in the wider world and the international community to try and find contracts for players.
During the Press conference, Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme captain and 2012 Footballer of the Year Mario Harte revealed that he was looking to take his talent and skill to the next level.
“Right now, Mr Harris and the BFA are trying to work out something for me. I don’t want to say anything too much right now, but as soon as things are finalized, I will let you know.”
