Commonwealth Award for Saffrey

Barbadian Kemar Saffrey is among four winners of the Commonwealth Youth Award for Excellence in Development Work.
The award celebrates young people who are making a positive difference to the lives of others. Saffrey is founder, chairman and president of The Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society which provides access to food, clothing, shelter and rehabilitation for those in need.  
The BVHS also offers programmes designed to give homeless people the skills to find employment and shelter and to reintegrate them into mainstream society.
The other three awardees are from Australia, Kenya and Sri Lanka. Between them, they received £14 000 (BDS$42 253) for their projects. (PR)
