Defending champions?MIX 96.9 FM Dovers Juniors, St Philip Juniors and three-time champions Fusionz Boutique Passage United are through to the semi-finals of the Inspire Sports/National Sports Council Under-13 Cricket Competition.
They will join Ellerton Juniors who had already booked a spot in the final four. In the semi-finals to be contested on Sunday, Dover Juniors will host St Philip Juniors at Dover and Passage United will play Ellerton Juniors at Passage Road.
Spin dominated in all Sunday’s quarter-finals. Dover Juniors defeated TeleBarbados Carlton Juniors by 113 runs; St Philip Juniors beat North Stars Juniors by 90 runs and Mark’s Auto Spares Market Hill Young Blazers went under by ten wickets to Passage United.
At Dover, Player of  the Match, Nyeem Young top-scored with a vital 58, in Dover Juniors’ 188 for seven from 35 overs after they elected to bat.
He faced 62 balls, striking two fours and one six over mid-wicket. Young and Jaden Forde, who made 36 added 81 in 19 overs for the second wicket before Forde was caught and bowled by Jacobi Gooding.
Eventually, Young was caught at mid-on in the 33rd over off Marc Cyrus, who also took the wicket of Jaden Edmund in the same over. The off-spinner claimed five for 45 from his seven overs.
In reply, medium-pacer Young took the first two wickets before left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop picked up five for 13, as Carlton Juniors were dismissed for 75 in 24.1 overs.
Bishop had two wickets in his fifth over when Teron Lashley was caught at mid-wicket and Jonathan Doughlin pulled to square-leg. Bishop also made a double strike in his final over as the last three wickets fell with the total on 75.
At Blenheim, Market Hill Young Blazers, opting to bat, were routed for 42 in 18.2 overs. The off-spinning pair of Player of The Match Shakkae Marshall with five for two from six overs including five maidens and Micah Thornhill, four for 13 did the damage.
Last year’s losing finalists Passage United raced to victory in 5.1 overs.
Off-spin also did the trick at King’s Park, where Shian Brathwaite (4-12) and Daniel Willings (4-17) bundled out North Stars Juniors for 68 needing 159 to win. Earlier, Player of The Match Brathwaite made 27 in St Philip Juniors’ 158 for eight from the allotted 35 overs.
The final is slated for Easter Monday, April 1 at Dayrells Road. (EDH)
