THE BARBADOS CRICKET ASSOCIATION (BCA) has thrown its support behind incumbent president Julian Hunte in the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) election.
Amidst speculation that Hunte’s challenger Dave Cameron was seeking the backing of the BCA, the board of management ratified its position to endorse Hunte for the post of president and Joel Garner for vice-president at its monthly meeting on Monday night.
Speaking to MIDWEEK SPORT yesterday, BCA president Garner said the board’s decision was prompted by the progress the WICB had made under Hunte’s leadership since 2007.
“It is a commonsense approach. As it is, I don’t think you should get rid of an incumbent president for the sake of getting rid of an incumbent president,” Garner said.
“We’ve had six years of stability. We’re now starting to put a Caribbean Premier League in place; we have a good media rights deal. There are a lot of things happening. Continuity and stability are what you’re looking for.”
