THERE IS ABSOLUTELY no reason why anyone is Barbados should go to bed hungry.
Steve Blackett, Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, stated this in the House of Assembly yesterday while giving the assurance that the island’s social services had been supplied with enough funds to respond to the needs of the vulnerable.
He spoke extensively about the work of his ministry to reduce poverty and remove people from a  state of dependency.
The St Michael Central representative, who was contributing to the debate on the 2013-2014 Estimates Of Income And Expenditure, said the Welfare Department and the National Assistance Board (NAB) seldom rejected requests for assistance.
