Organizers of the Oistins Fish Festival are crying out for help from the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) because of a lack of sponsorship.
“I think that the time has come when perhaps the NCF or some other agency equipped to manage a festival of that magnitude should come in and partner with the Oistins Fish Festival committee,” said deputy chairman Dr Dan Carter yesterday at the media launch of the LIME Oistins Fish Festival 2013.
“We have a structure in place and we need a secretariat and a whole set of things that we do just among ourselves. It is a tremendous challenge but I think the festival has outgrown our capacity to manage it,” he said.
Chairman Herbert Yearwood said that the current economic climate had also contributed to sponsors withdrawing or decreasing sponsorship to the festival which cost an estimated $150 000 to produce annually. (AH)
