And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. – Galatians 6: vs. 9-10
I AM FORCED to write part two of my column from last week after I read in Monday’s DAILY?NATION of Minister of Home Affairs Adriel Brathwaite’s concerns about the population at Her Majesty Prisons Dodds, St Philip. This has also been a concern of mine for sometime.
There are too many young people between the ages of 18 and 30 incarcerated during these productive years.
It hurts me that those young people all pass through our educational system and after spending so much money to ensure free education, school meals, bus fare and textbooks – this is what we are getting.
Something has to be wrong. There are too many people who just do not care.
Brathwaite revealed the very alarming figures of 1 112 men and 38 women.
We have just built a new prison and if the population continues to increase, where are we going to put those prisoners?
As adults and especially parents, let us do all within our reach to help our people, for it is our responsibility.
Come on now and do it for it is not too late.
