Pinelands boosted their bid to regain a place in the Barbados Football Association’s Digicel Premier League with a massive 7-0 thrashing of Bagatelle in a Banks Beer Division 1 match at the Wildey Football AstroTurf on Sunday evening.
The goal rush was started by captain Lionel Paul in the tenth minute and he followed up with goals in the 45th and 65th minutes to complete a hat-trick.
Haldayne Payne (67th) and Dario Wilson (80th) made it 5-0, while former national defender Randy Burrowes (90+1) and Rasheed Greaves (90+4) completed the goal rush with injury time goals.
Bagatelle’s woes were compounded when Terry Stevens was red-carded in the second minute of stoppage time.
The victory carried Pinelands into fourth place on 20 points from ten matches, one fewer than Christ Church arch rivals, Parish Land and Silver Sands as well as the University of the West Indies, who are locked in a three-way tie at the top of the standings on 21 points from 11 matches.
Following a 2-0 victory over Benfica at Brereton on Monday night, courtesy of goals by Leonard Rice (68th) and Mario Birkett (88th), Parish Land are ahead with a goal difference of eight, followed by Silver Sands (7) and UWI (5). UWI missed a chance to take sole possession of the lead when they were upset 1-0 by lowly Kick Start at Orange Hill on Monday night.
Maxwell are fifth with 15 points from ten matches; followed by Empire, who have 14 points from nine games and Bagatelle, who have 12 points from nine matches.
Newly promoted Carlton have ten points from nine matches to be just ahead of Clarke’s Hill (nine points from nine matches and Kick Start (nine points from 11 matches).
Benfica (eight points from nine matches) and Ellerton, who have not won any of their nine matches, are last on just three points, earned from three draws.
The Division 1 continues today with three matches at 6:30 p.m. Parish Land host Carlton at Parish Land; Benfica entertain Silver Sands at Blenheim ‘B’ and Maxwell meet Clarke’s Hill at Briar Hall. (EZS)
