THE?LOCAL?Subway sandwich chain will lose its franchise if it compromises on its standard.
Frederick George, a director with Alfundi Investments Limited, which brought the American chain here almost three years ago, said that in many cases the processed meats they were mandated to use were not available locally and those that were available didn’t measure up to the required standards.
“We are a Barbadian company, 100 per cent owned by Barbadians, and we have Barbados’ welfare in our heart. It does not benefit us to import things. We would rather get it locally but there must be of a standard that the franchise company agrees too.
“There are thousands of subway franchises throughout the world and the standard must be maintained. It has become the most successful franchise in the world, bigger than MacDonald’s, and that’s because they set high standards.
