Jade Padmore mature’s 105 was the highlight as ESA Field Pickwick batted all day to compile 229-4 against Carlton.
The left-handed Padmore was the last batsman dismissed when he was stumped after striking a six and eight fours in 255 minutes in which he faced 209 balls.
“I started a bit scratchy at first, but I had to fight all through the innings and with a little luck and the grace of God, I was able to get to a good score which put my team in a good position,” he told SUNSPORT.
A good score looked in serious doubt when the home team, after winning the toss, was rocked by pacer Dawayne Sealy.
Sealy, who recently made his first-class debut with Combined Campuses and Colleges, had opener Jamal Phillips neatly taken at first slip by Shirley Clarke for a duck and Kyle Hope (11) at third slip by Vonrick Nurse with the score on 26.
Padmore, a tall, stylish 23-year-old, was joined by the equally stylish and talented right-hander Shai Hope in a third-wicket stand of 118 which rescued the batting team.
Hope, who also made his first-class debut this year, contributed 52 from 110 balls with five fours and a six before he was bounced out by his Barbados Under-19 teammate Shayne Moseley.
Rohan Ryan batted slowly while sharing 52 with Padmore for the fourth wicket.
After Padmore was dismissed for his second century at this level, Ryan, who was 20 not out after 65 balls at the close, shared an unbeaten 39-run stand with the rampaging Jared Gilkes. Gilkes clubbed two sixes and two fours from 14 balls to be 24 not out.
