AS ABOUT 3 000 people from throughout the world are expected to converge on the island for a Christian convention later this year, the Ministry of Tourism is planning to aggressively market Barbados as a faith-based destination.
This was the word from Acting Minister of Tourism Irene Sandiford-Garner during a Press conference yesterday at the ministry to announce that Barbados would be hosting the New Testament Church of God Caribbean Assembly 2013, which is being held for the first time in the region.
Sandiford-Garner said that the multimillion-dollar industry would be a very profitable niche for Barbados since the country – with over 100 denominations islandwide and numerous church buildings of particular architectural and historic interest – had a great deal to offer faith-based guests.
She added that there was much scope for expanding the offerings to the market as the island had a plethora of venues for revivals, retreats and conventions, the sea for baptisms and Gospelfest which is hosted by Barbados annually. AH)
