Back on track
Barbadian athletes returned to the National Stadium yesterday to compete on the brand new Mondo track.
The staging of the 2013 Barbados Olympians Classic signalled the end of a six-month wait for the track to be laid.
During that time, athletes competed on grass at various school grounds and many of them made regional and international qualifying times despite the lack of a synthetic surface.
The new drainage system seemed to be working perfectly as water from a rain shower quickly drained. But there was no grass in the area of the long jump and close to the velodrome, leading to some muddy patches by the photo finish camera and tents near the finish line.
The meet continues today from 3 p.m.
