THE LAST CANES in the country’s worst sugar crop yield were collected last Friday.
And John Goodman, technical manager of factories, said that the final projection was about 174 000 tonnes of cane and just 17 500 tonnes of sugar, which is more than 500 tonnes short of the projected amount.
Goodman told the NATION that so far Andrews Factory had ground 80 597 tonnes of cane, which yielded 8 435 tonnes of sugar. Portvale had ground 90 496 tonnes of cane and made 8 953 tonnes of sugar. (AH)
