Veronica Campbell Brown tests positive
Olympic and world champion Veronica Campbell-Brown has tested positive for a banned drug during the Jamaica International Invitational World Challenge meet on May 4, according to reports in the Jamaican media.
The seven-time Olympic medallist, who also has nine medals at the World Championships, tested positive for the prohibited substance Lasix, which also goes by the name furosemide.
Lasix is a form of diuretic which promotes the production of urine and treats medical conditions, including high blood pressure and edema. It is viewed as a masking agent by the World Anti-doping Agency.
Campbell-Brown, who lives and trains in the United States, has been provisionally suspended in accordance with IAAF rules after being notified of an adverse finding of her “A” sample by the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association.
As a result of the test, the Jamaican is expected to miss the 14th IAAF World Championships in Moscow in August. (FP)
