More than 4 000 people turned up at the Wildey hockey Astroturf for Water Xplosion 2 last Sunday evening. Decked out in swimming caps, sweat caps, swimsuits, short pants, vests and bath trunks, the patrons – mostly young – arrived ready to get wet while partying. The more daring wore raincoats and carried snorkelling equipment.
Some teenagers in short pants got wet even before making it past the entrance as intermittent rain caught many waiting to get in.
The event started at 4 p.m. but by 6 p.m. the people on the outside waiting to enter outnumbered those on the inside enjoying the water, foam, 40-foot slide, mud wrestling and paint. Police were called upon to contain the growing crowd queueing impatiently outside since challenges arose with only one access gate being used as both the entrance and the exit. (LK)
