Cities alive with pan

Article by BEA DOTTIN

The sweet sounds of pan touched down in two Bajan towns yesterday.
Pan lovers got their appetites whetted dockside on the lower end of the Wickham/Lewis Boardwalk in Bridgetown, where the youngsters in Eastland Allstars Steel Orchestra set the tone for those gathered dockside and onboard the Jolly Roger with hits like Just For You, Sweet Caroline, Sugar Bum Bum, Iron Bazodee, Footsteps, Pump Me Up, Nah Going Home and Swinging Engine.
It was more than half-hour of sweetness for enthusiasts, and an easy lime for those who wanted an evening out and a chance to take in some of the activities of the Sweetest Summer Festival.
With fans already making their way to Speightstown, St Peter, for the main event, the gangway was pulled up just after 6 p.m., and the boat sailed into the sunset with party music to set the rhythm for the scenic trip down the West Coast.
Sunset Steel Orchestra was set up on board and members were waiting to entertain. Grynner was also scheduled to make an appearance. Banks Soundtech, Olakunde and Unity steel orchestras were on hand to rock the crowd in the north into the night. (YB)
