Rousing welcome for duo
With the blowing of horns and the waving of flags and banners, Tia-Adana Belle and Mario Burke were welcomed home by a large crowd of officials, coaches, fellow athletes and family at the Grantley Adams International Airport yesterday.
Among the welcoming party were Minster of Sport Stephen Lashley and Senator Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo who previously held the sports portfolio.
Also on hand were two former presidents of the Athletics Association in Esther Maynard and Noel Lynch, while principal of The St Michael School, Shelton Perkins and coach Gabriel Burnett led a large group of students who turned out to welcome home schoolmate Belle.
A reception was later held at the Accra Beach Hotel for the pair.
